RE: 39% savings in fuel

In the real world, driving that close is crazy. The trucker will feel the added drag; he isn't likely to stop and render assistance when the idiot bar chops your roof off just above the windshield wipers. All he needs to do is close the throttle. Your reaction time is not fast enough to save your life. I've seen cars run under the idiot bar. It isn't pretty.

RE: A Deer Camp?

I hate to be picky, and again, I`m no engineer, but I would have notched the posts so the cross beams would carry the load, not just the hardware. If the hardware rusts or pulls through or fails, that sucker is coming down. Granted, it`s not that much weight, but it would have been a lot stronger. Nice idea, though. Pretty cool. I agree. A songle bolt through that joint is not safe. I'd support the crosspiece with about 5 feet of 8x8, so you can get another half-dozen bolts supporting that joint. Even then, I'd wrap a cable around the joint so it can't slide off the extra support. Good looking rig, but it may not be a legal shooting stand in some states.

RE: New TT Linoleum Issue

4' is the width of a sheet of plywood, so I assume that the linoleum is cracking at the joints because the frame flexes in transit. If the linoleum is good otherwise, I would just try to hide the cracks with narrow flat metal trim strips. If you replace linoleum, you should put a thin underlayment beneath (e.g. 3/16 luan), glued, screwed and overlapping the present joints. The best redo would probably be a floating hardwood flooring.

RE: great campground bad campsite

That seems to be the sort of complaint that BBB handles best. There's no reason that anyone's kids should be exposed to that hazard on a high priced campsite. Sure, it is a difficult problem to manage, but they will never tackle it without a proper complaint.

RE: Consistent noise from V-10

I Once met a practical Joker who would attach things to Drive shafts and Hang stuff in weird places to cause a noise on His "Friends" Cars. That was back in the days when every Kid had a "Hot Rod" , that wasn't so Hot! I had one of those worrisome noises caused by a piece of twine wrapped around the drive shaft. The loose end apparently wore to a length that caused it to strike the underbody only intermittently. A soft tic, tic, tic let me know that a rotating part was involved and would go away with a slight speed change. I spent a couple weeks wondering what part was in the process of failing. I had pulled the hub caps to feel for a hot bearing. The sound was soft and I couldn't locate it while moving. I finally found the string wrapped around the drive shaft when I crawled underneath to check the universals. I then remembered backing across that string during a trip to the dump, months before.

RE: Integrated Motorhome Computer?

Full-timers do it every way imaginable. Laptops are favored by the space challenged, but many rvers carry full desktopped offices-- printer and all. Custom desks are available, or set up to run from your dinette, bedroom or wherever. Your situation and needs dictate your setup. You can mount your pc where space is available and easily run cables for mouse, keyboard and monitor to anywhere in your rig; neat custom faceplates, cables and wire races are cheap and easy to find. You can even run off 12v if needed with 12v power supply and monitor. You can switch out your rigs tv for a tv/monitor to save space if necessary. Flip-down monitors are available. USB broadband wifi is state-of-the-art and great rv/trucker antennas are available, as well as signal boosters. So, what do you want? I've got a bunch of links, but no idea which ones you need.

RE: WHY WOULD YOU BUY ONLINE OUT Of STATE

One of our largest Michigan dealers won't supply a price to an email request or on their huge online site; a much smaller dealer in Dayton, Ohio will give his best price by phone or email. The difference in dealer attitude is huge. Reason two is selection. I'm looking to buy a small rig in Texas because he has the better inventory.

RE: Are you ready for solar powered cold air?

Lemme see....... 562-973 lbs 980 watts @24 volts 42-48 inches high I don't think it will replace the current units.

RE: Ice cream pie!

I make a glaze with frozen strawberries. Heat enough to thicken with cornstarch and allow to cool as the pies harden in the freezer. Cover the top of the pies with the cooled glaze and return to the freezer. When serving, top with whipped cream. Other canned fruits may be used.

RE: Anyone ever have a cat that doesn't nuzzle you? Pics incl.

I had a cat once that growled instead of purred. She loved to be petted, but would growl and snarl the whole time. I had her from birth and she was the smallest of the litter. She appeared absolutely fierce when she came to be petted, but would arch her back into my hand. She never scratched or bit. Eventually, she learned to purr at about 3 years old.

RE: How Do You Fix Small Window Screens?

A full service hardware can rescreen for a few bucks. This time of year, there may be 2-3 days wait because work is stacked up, but it won't cost much. You could do it yourself, the same store will have new rubber stripping. Just lay it out and press the rubber into the groove, then trim with a sharp new box-cutter. It isn't difficult, pressing the rubber in tightens the screen. Don't try so hard that you deform the frame. If your frame is falling apart, take it to the shop; they can easily make a new copy.

RE: Olive oil in tanks to prevent sticking?

I see a lot of people using bleach in their holding tanks This can be very dangerous. Several types of dangerous gasses can be released. There are numerous online warnings, and too many dangerous mixtures to list; many are common household cleaning materials. I will list one reference below. Household cleaners can create poison gas. Two examples are: Mixing together chlorine bleach or chlorine cleansers with ammonia. Mixing together chlorine products with shower tile cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner or any type of acid. http://www.calpoison.com/public/breath.html

RE: Tip to save hours on phone for tech help, Sprint USB EVDO

I keep a notation for OpenDNS handy for when Comcast DNS goes toes-up. Open DNS (it is a free service) What happens is that text URLs don't get translated to the numeric equiwalent necessary for surfing. You can set your machines to use OpenDNS, bypassing the broken service. Instructions are on the link above.

RE: Partially stolen Ford F350

Ford Roadside assistance will tow for free also. The truck is less than a year old, so this might pan out. I'll have to look and see what kind of roadside coverage was included. I don't have AAA or Good Sam. Now that I think about it though, I think my camper came with a free one year good sam. Maybe its time to activate that. thanks all, jp Call a Ford dealer. I believe you have a year of Roadside Assistance that includes towing. Info is probably still in your glovebox.

RE: Easy Meal for Large Group

I make beans and kielbasa using Randall white/navy beans (precooked in glass jars) allow for 4-5 servings per jar. add onions and a little pepper, no salt needed. Cut the kielbasa or smoked sausage to a convenient serving size. May be baked, simmered or crock-potted until onions are tender. Serve with cornbread.

RE: Refreshing Router

Can anyone explain why I need to refresh my wireless router every 2-3 days? I'll notice problems while surfing, check my connection and see that I'm actually connected via a neighbor's network. I go upstairs, disconnect power cord to router, wait 30 seconds and plug it in, and have Excellent or Very Good conectivity. It's not a major issue, but I'm curious and, if possible, would like to eliminate the problem. I would turn off the router ID broadcast (so you can't be seen) and change the DHCP start/end range. (to reduce number of connections and move the IP range.) With that done, I would change the router name and the password. (if left on "admin", any idiot can change your router settings) If your neighbor is showing on your DHCP client table with your machines, it means he is connecting to your router. If you are actually connecting to your neighbor's router, there should be a way to remove that connection option, probably in your wireless card setup options.

RE: Fried Pies

Where I come from (the Ozarks) they are not deep fat fried. They are made with short biscuit dough and pan fried in a small amount of lard in a cast iron skillet under medium heat. Cooked on one side until brown, turned, covered with lid and cooked until second side is brown. I agree. My Alabama Grannie made them for us from home dried apples. Her dough was a regular ie crust, kneeded to toughen it and rolled a bit thicker than for pies. The dough came out flakey and deep brown. I make mine with canned beef stew. My dough is flakey pie crust. I find a large size coffee can cuts the proper size dough. I make them up by the dozens and freeze them raw. Then I fry them; freezing makes them hold together for frying, otherwise the gravy makes frying difficult. Then I freeze them again and baggie them for freezer storage. A few minutes in the microwave makes them a great "quick" meal.

RE: Debit or bank bill pay, which is better/safer

I don't schedule recurring payments. I pay my bills each month by electronic debit. I haven't written a paper check in many months. Using Chase Bank, the payee info is stored online and I merely enter the payment amount and a few clicks to complete. If the payee is not set up to accept electronic payments, the bank will mail a paper check, and they don't even charge me for postage. In making payment, make sure to use the payment address from your paper monthly bill. Some companies have dozens of offices listed, and you want payment to go to the correct office. My cable bill goes to Pennsylvania, my auto insurance to Illinois, even though both have local offices. Pepperoni

RE: Adding a URL Link

They won't learn unless someone teaches them. 1- Click on the "link" button on the toolbar. http://tinyurl.com/6zpb8o 2- Fill in the pop-up box. http://tinyurl.com/55tnty Both lines should be filled; one defines the URL, the other is the text which is clickable, and leads to the desired URL.
